A fatal shooting at an Atlanta townhouse complex has launched a homicide investigation and a manhunt for the suspect after an incident that took place on Saturday in the Oakland City neighborhood. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the altercation began between two roommates at the Oakland Park Townhomes on Oakland Drive SW, escalating to gunfire in the afternoon.
The Atlanta Police Department, supported by a SWAT team, initially believed the shooter was barricaded inside the complex, leading to a prolonged standoff. However, after several hours, police cleared the unit and concluded that the suspect had fled the scene. The identities of both the victim and the suspect have yet to be released by officials.
In a separate account of the same incident, Atlanta News First adds that the conflict between the roommates reportedly stemmed from a dispute over money. The police were called to the scene at approximately 12:18 p.m. on Saturday, upon receiving reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 28-year-old male victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the location by the responding medical personnel. A SWAT team was then called in "out of an abundance of caution," according to a police report cited by Atlanta News First. The identity of the victim also remains undisclosed while the police continue their search for the perpetrator.
