An officer with the Marana Police Department has been placed on administrative leave due to allegations of an off-duty vehicle break-in. According to a FOX 10 Phoenix report, Daniel Bonn, the accused officer, was allegedly found by the pickup truck's owner inside the vehicle early Sunday morning when the bar was closed. Officials from the Marana Police Department confirmed the incident occurred along Ina Road in Tucson.
The situation escalated when the truck's owner, having confronted Bonn, then called 911. Despite being off-duty, Bonn reportedly claimed the truck was his and, as per an AZFamily interview with the purported victim, insinuated he could have the man arrested. Walking over, Bonn’s partner reportedly drew a loaded weapon, but the Marana Police Department found reports of a second off-duty officer at the scene to be unfounded.
An internal investigation has been launched into Bonn's conduct, alongside a criminal investigation by the Pima County Sheriff's Department focusing on possible charges of trespassing and criminal damage. "The Marana Police Department takes any allegations involving its officers very seriously," stated MPD in a release, promising commitment to transparency and accountability, as detailed by AZFamily.
For further developments in this ongoing legal matter, official statements made by the Marana Police Department assert that additional details will be withheld until the conclusion of both the criminal investigation and the internal review, as was affirmed in the report by AZFamily.
