A tragedy unfolded in Cobb County on Friday morning when 63-year-old Michael Kinyon was struck and killed by a vehicle on Powder Springs Street near Sandtown Road SW. Marietta Police Department confirmed the fatal incident and subsequently closed multiple lanes to manage the scene and facilitate their investigation.
The collision occurred out of the crosswalk, prompting an immediate response from local law enforcement. As reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, the Marietta Police urged the public to avoid the area shortly after 7 a.m., estimating that the road closures would last at least an hour. The driver of the 2011 Hyundai involved in the incident remained on site and cooperated with the authorities.
Details about the incident are limited, but it is clear that the pedestrian, Kinyon, was not using a crosswalk during the collision. Authorities have not shared more information on what led to the event or whether distractions or impairments were involved.
Later in the day, WSB-TV shared the identification of the victim, revealing the name of the person at the center of this tragic event. Investigations are ongoing as the Marietta Police Department continues its work.
