Concern has risen among students at Marquette University after an armed robbery incident involving two of their peers yesterday. According to the WISN, the Marquette University Police Department is actively searching for a suspect who confronted the two female students near the intersection of 16th Street and State Street just after 8 p.m. Reports confirm the suspect brandished a weapon and demanded the students' wallets, though ultimately took off with their backpacks.
The suspect, who fled toward North State Street, was described as a 5-foot-10 Black male, believed to be in his mid-20s to 30s, wearing a gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and a black ski mask. This account came from WISN, adding a layer of unease to the campus atmosphere the next day. The robbery reportedly took place in the vicinity of 16th and Kilbourn Ave, leaving students like Marquette University junior Hannah Wedel to say, "That's kind of scary because I mean that could have been us."
No physical injuries were reported from the confrontation. However, both victims' backpacks were taken. "I'm definitely going to be aware of my surroundings now," voiced junior Brianna Kowalski, reflecting a shared sentiment among students in an interview obtained by WISN.
