Residents in the vicinity of West Georgia Technical College's Coweta Campus and Piedmont Newnan Hospital might have noticed an unusual flurry of activity this morning. That's because a mass casualty training exercise was conducted from 6:30 AM to 12:00 PM, as part of a collaboration between the college, the hospital, and several state and local agencies. According to a statement released by the City of Newnan, the drill was a planned event aimed at bolstering the preparedness of emergency services for any potential mass casualty incidents.
During the exercise, Campus Drive was closed to traffic, and there was an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel in the area. Officials assured the public that there was no actual threat to safety. The road closure and emergency responders were necessary for the training exercise.
The community was asked to stay away from certain areas during today's drill. A notification was sent out explaining the importance of the training and thanking everyone for their cooperation.
