For the second time this month, the GameStop on Union Avenue in Memphis has been hit by burglars, and the Memphis Police Department is seeking assistance from the public to catch the culprits. According to Action News 5, a group of six suspects broke into the store through a side window yesterday at around 5:00 a.m., making off with headsets and gaming controllers.
Memphis Police, detailing the incident that reflects a worrying pattern for the retailer, indicated this was not an isolated event, but the second burglary targeting this specific GameStop location within a month, raising concerns about the security measures in place and the allure these bright-lit havens of electronic escapism seem to hold for those with intent to pilfer. Officers had said the same GameStop store was previously broken into in the early morning hours of October 9 when over ten individuals reportedly burglarized the gaming establishment with a similar modus operandi, as per a report by FOX13 Memphis.
Adding to the narrative, the Memphis Police Department took to social media to spread the word and seek community assistance in the wake of the burglaries. The MPD shared images and videos of the suspects involved in the latest incident, urging anyone with pertinent information to reach out to Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH, promising anonymity and even the possibility of a reward for tips leading to arrests.
