Menlo Park resident Franco Serapio, 48, has been arrested in connection to a violent assault involving a golf club, Palo Alto Police announced. The incident, which took place on the creek embankment near the 2000 block of East Bayshore Road on Monday at around 3:45 p.m., left a man gravely injured but expected to recover, as reported on the City of Palo Alto's official website.
According to the victim's girlfriend, who witnessed the attack, an argument between her boyfriend and Serapio, who is an acquaintance, escalated violently. Serapio allegedly struck the man in the head with the golf club and proceeded to threaten him with a kitchen knife before the woman intervened, and the suspect fled on a bicycle. Palo Alto Police obtained a probable cause arrest warrant for Serapio and took him into custody after he self-surrendered yesterday morning.
Facing charges of attempted murder and criminal threats, both felonies, along with a misdemeanor for brandishing, Serapio is currently booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail. His booking photograph has been released alongside the report detailing the circumstances of his arrest and the preceding assault.
