The ceremony, which took place at Bell Memorial Park, hosted a number of residents to witness the honoring of this year's inductees, an event that comes annually but retains a novelty each time as the hallowed list grows. According to a statement obtained by the City of Milton's official website, Councilmember Phil Cranmer reminisced over his involvement in the selection process and lauded Milton for consistently producing exemplary sports figures.
The inductees each brought their own narrative back to the park, with Lydia Cassada and Cole McNamee flying in from New York to be honored in the community they once helped to quickly rise on the athletic front. McNamee recalled the transformation of Bell Memorial Park from his childhood days to the present, while Cassada mentioned being coaxed into lacrosse by a middle school PE teacher who would himself later be ensconced on the same wall. Bob Rech, the third honoree, recognized the support of his family, particularly his wife's indulgence of his coaching commitments that took countless nights and weekends.
Lydia Cassada, celebrated for her remarkable lacrosse journey, which commenced at Milton High and furthered at Northwestern University, felt this homecoming as a testament to the roots that began to vine at the suggestion of her middle school physical education teacher. "All three of you are joining very good company. And all three of your very much deserve to be part of this exclusive club,” Cranmer told the City of Milton's official website, as he addressed the accomplished trio.
Spectators and past honorees watched as the 2024 class etched their names alongside other notables who have also contributed to Milton's sporting legacy. The Wall of Fame, which represents a tapestry of local athletic excellence, is open for visitors at Bell Memorial Park or viewable online for those eager to trace the steps of Milton's finest. Nominations for the next set of exemplary individuals, slated for the 2025 class, are already being accepted on the official website.
