Two officers from the Milwaukie Police Department are on paid administrative leave following an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Monday morning. The incident, which is currently under investigation, happened just before 1 a.m. during a routine traffic stop at 11000 SE Oak Street.

According to a statement released by the Clackamas County officials, the officers conducted the stop after identifying the driver's suspended license. During the stop, conducted by the two officers, shots were fired from their duty pistols, critically injuring the driver. The officers were on a routine patrol when the shooting broke out, neither of them sustaining injuries.

The identity of the driver, who received emergency first aid from the responding officers and was later transported to a nearby hospital, has not been disclosed by the authorities. Presently, the individual remains in critical condition.

The Clackamas Interagency Major Crimes Team, along with the Clackamas District Attorney’s Office, are leading the complex investigation. Supporting response was garnered from multiple agencies including the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Canby Police, Lake Oswego Police, and West Linn Police. Having investigators on the scene from diverse agencies, the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office is expected to provide a comprehensive review of the police shooting.
