A serious traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a car occurred yesterday afternoon in the Bay Terraces neighborhood, which resulted in major injuries to the motorcyclist. According to the San Diego Police Department Watch Commander's Log, the incident occurred at Paradise Valley Road and Briarwood Road.
Reportedly, at around 3:40 p.m., a 60-year-old man was maneuvering his black 2019 Suzuki motorcycle and preparing to make a left turn from Paradise Valley Road onto northbound Briarwood Road. While flawed by the sharpness of the midday sun, the driver's vision was not affected by alcohol, according to the police. At this intersection, he collided with a red 2015 Toyota Prius driven by a 63-year-old woman heading west on Paradise Valley Road.
The collision caused the motorcyclist to lose control and slide into the Prius, sustaining severe injuries in the process. Officer J. Perales, the Watch Commander, noted that the motorcyclist "suffered facial fractures, a brain bleed and was transported to a local hospital." The crash did not involve alcohol as a contributing factor.
As the afternoon waned into evening, the Traffic Division of the SDPD took charge of the ongoing investigation. They are urging anyone with information related to the collision to come forward and assist in piecing together the events that led up to the accident. People with information are encouraged to call the listed Command handling the investigation or contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
