A serious traffic collision involving a San Diego Police Department vehicle and a civilian car resulted in multiple injuries, including a fractured femur for one individual, authorities said. The accident occurred at the intersection of Midway Drive and Barnett Avenue yesterday, according to the SDPD Watch Commander's Log.
The incident unfolded when a police vehicle, operating under Code 3 conditions—a designation signifying the use of lights and siren—stopped at a red light before proceeding through the intersection. Meanwhile, a Honda Accord driven by a 27-year-old female was traveling southbound. Despite another vehicle halting for the oncoming patrol car, the Honda Accord entered the intersection, leading to a collision. Initial reports suggest DUI may have been a contributing factor for the driver of the Honda, the authorities indicated.
Both the driver and passenger of the Honda sustained significant injuries, with the driver suffering a femur fracture and the passenger—an orbital fracture. The officers involved sustained minor cuts and abrasions. The SDPD has not released the identity of those involved but urges anyone with information to come forward.
