Yesterday afternoon, a barn on the 200 block of Trees Mills Road in Salem Township, Westmoreland County, was reduced to ashes as a blaze took hold and rapidly engulfed the entire structure. According to a WPXI report, the incident was reported around 12:45 p.m., and by the time emergency services arrived, the site was already a raging inferno.
Smoke from the fire was reportedly visible for miles, and Slickville Assistant Fire Chief David Rader declared the barn completely consumed before crews could engage. Not a single animal nor person suffered injuries in the event, as the barn, by its fate, was primarily used for storing hay. "The cause of the fire remains under investigation," WPXI detailed.
In an eye-witness account featured by WTAE, which captured video evidence of the blaze, resident Derick Hayes said, "It was gone in a matter of seconds," highlighting the swift and devastating nature of the ordeal. The barn contained a significant quantity of hay, perhaps contributing to the speed with which the fire consumed the structure.
