Community members are being advised to steer clear of 182 Summer Street, known as Kingsbury Square, following a fire that broke out at the locale earlier today. The site, which houses the Big Y Supermarket Plaza, was engulfed by a "working fire assignment" that prompted action from the Kingston Fire Department. Upon the fire alarm activation, responders were met with smoke and flames, leading them to summon additional aid through a 2nd Alarm, as reported in a Kingston Massachusetts Facebook post.
Assisting the Kingston Fire Department, adjacent mutual aid partners converged on the scene to combat the blaze disrupting the multiple business units within Kingsbury Square. Due to the emergency, these establishments will remain shuttered for the remainder of the day. Investigators from Kingston Police Department (KPD) and other agencies were also present on-site, engaged in assuring the safety of the property before it could be cleared for the return of store managers.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but early assessments point to a mechanical failure in the HVAC system. There were no reported injuries. Fire officials are continuing to look into the incident and ensure safety measures are in place before businesses can reopen.
