Ogden Police have confirmed the arrest of a school resource officer from their ranks on charges including sexual exploitation of a minor. The officer, identified as Colton Johansen, was taken into custody by the Davis County Sheriff's Office which unveiled allegations involving inappropriate conduct and misuse of evidence. According to FOX 13, an internal affairs investigation by Ogden police resulted in Johansen's termination, despite findings that the alleged misdeeds did not transpire during his appointment as a school resource officer.
Additional details surfaced from a routine examination that Johansen underwent for a potential new role linked to school security, as reported by ABC4. During the process, Johansen confessed to removing a box of case files to his home, which comprised sexually explicit images of individuals from infants to adults. A later search of his home led detectives to discover the said box, filled with CDs containing imagery of minors in compromising states. As detailed by KUTV, Ogden police emphasized a commitment to transparency and the ethical conduct of their employees, despite the allegations not being associated with Johansen’s duties as an officer stationed at a school.
The gravity of the charges has resulted in Johansen being ordered to be held without bail, pending a pretrial detention hearing. The Ogden Police Department announced its intention to maintain cooperation with ongoing investigations. "The Ogden Police Department remains dedicated to upholding the trust placed in us by the public," they expressed as per KUTV.
