The Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC) has launched an administrative inquiry into a deadly shooting at La Mota, a cannabis retailer in the St. Johns district of North Portland. According to the OLCC's official statement, the incident that led to the death of two individuals during an attempted robbery took place on the evening of October 3.

Jason Steiner faces charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder concerning the incident, to which he has pled not guilty, as detailed by the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission. The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office is handling the criminal case while the OLCC’s concerns lie with potential breaches of administrative regulations. LaMota North Portland LLC, under the guidance of Aaron Mitchell and Rosa Cazares, runs the business which has been licensed since November 2020 and has reported four previous robberies at this address.

As the investigation continues, La Mota has informed the commission that it has temporarily shut its doors and has yet to divulge any plans for reopening, as per the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission.
