In a move that taps into the sentimental hearts of married partners across the region, Orange County has opened its arms to those wishing to renew their marital vows; starting on October 19, the Old Orange County Courthouse along with two other branch offices becomes a site for reaffirmation ceremonies—a first for the area. For the nominal fee of $28, which is far less than the secular sacrament originally cost, couples can reconvene beneath historic arches, or in the community spaces of Anaheim or Laguna Hills, according to OCGov.
As reported by OCGov, the ceremonies are symbolic with no changes to legal status, but they provide a meaningful experience for couples to celebrate significant anniversaries, every footfall from the 5th to the 50th year together, or to recreate missed opportunities perhaps forfeited in the tumultuous times of a pandemic—a time when so many communal joys were sequestered and so many rituals delayed or deflated.
The initiative, which includes a complimentary souvenir certificate, caters to couples of all ages and walks of life, seeking to solidify their bonds in the presence of offspring or grandchildren; with it comes an acknowledgment of love's endurance and the shared journey's milestones. "Getting married is an incredible milestone, and I believe couples deserve more than one celebration over the years," declared Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen, as stated by OCGov.
Couples from any location are welcome to participate, as there are no residency restrictions.
