Residents of Peoria, it's that time of year to clear out your garages and cabinets from unwanted chemicals and hazardous materials. The City's Solid Waste Division is offering a way to get rid of these items safely and responsibly. According to their recent announcement, you can now schedule a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) pickup to ensure these potential dangers are handled correctly.
The service is available for several times this October, specifically from October 7 to 25. To set an appointment, Peoria residents should call 623-773-7836 or visit the Solid Waste Division's website for more information. Household Hazardous Waste includes a range of items many might unintentionally toss into the trash without considering the risks. When improperly disposed of, such waste can, and has, led to fires in solid waste vehicles and poses a threat to our water systems and overall environment.
In their mission to protect public health and the environment, the city emphasizes the importance of this collection effort. Items typically considered HHW are things like paints, cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides.
