After a two-year manhunt, Juan Steagall-Martinez, a fugitive with an outstanding warrant for first-degree rape of a child, has been apprehended by Pierce County deputies. According to a Pierce County Sheriff's Department blotter post, the arrest occurred following a domestic violence call from a concerned neighbor at the Olympic Village Apartments in Tacoma on Tuesday.
The neighbor had reported a disturbance caused by a man who was knocking repeatedly on an apartment door, believed to be thrown out by his roommate. Upon arriving, a deputy recognizing Martinez from a law enforcement flyer checked his ID and confirmed his identity. "The deputy immediately placed Steagall Martinez into handcuffs and confirmed the warrant for his arrest," the Pierce County Sheriff's Department stated.
Steagall-Martinez will now face accountability in court after evading capture for two years. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department praised the deputies for their diligent work, but details about his court dates have not yet been released.
