Earlier this morning, Pittsburgh Fire tackled a fire at an apartment building on Tripoli Street in East Allegheny. As reported by Pittsburgh Public Safety Blotter, the call came in just before the 8 a.m. bell, and firefighters were greeted by an active fire and billowing smoke upon arrival at the 500 block.
Firefighters contained the blaze to a single first-floor unit and extinguished it. Sadly, while trying to put out the fire, a woman in the apartment burned her hands. She is now in stable condition and recovering at a local hospital after being treated by Pittsburgh EMS.
The early investigation by the authorities indicates an accidental fire sparked by what appears to be careless smoking in a bedroom. While the woman was injured during the incident, it seems that the building did not sustain major damage, allowing residents to re-enter their homes relatively quickly.
The Red Cross was on site, offering help to anyone possibly displaced by the morning's events.
