A Ross Township resident is facing federal charges for the sexual exploitation of minors. The indictment was announced by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Pittsburgh yesterday. Ralph Talerico, 44, has been named in a six-count indictment that accuses him of producing and attempting to produce child sexual exploitation material from June to July 2023. They are also charged with possession of material that goals to depict the sexual exploitation of prepubescent minors and minors who are under 12, detected on June 6.
If convicted, Talerico could face a minimum of 15 years and up to 30 years in prison, along with a fine reaching $1.5 million. The law highlights that the actual sentence would reflect the severity of the offenses and any prior criminal history of the defendant.
This case was brought to the fore as part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative to combat the widespread issue of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and Homeland Security Investigations, spearheaded by U.S. Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, led to Talerico's indictment.
