Interstate 90's typically relentless flow of traffic was disrupted Monday night after an incident involving a Massachusetts State Police cruiser and a civilian vehicle. According to NBC10 Boston, a state police vehicle was struck by a Subaru Forester around 9:20 p.m. while working highway detail near mile marker 126.8 on I-90 westbound in Newton. The trooper, stationed inside his cruiser inside the detail setup, was subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment of the crash-sustained injuries.
The driver of the Subaru, Kimberly Anderson, 45, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol, state police reported. Having struck the police vehicle, two lanes were abruptly shutdown, causing notable traffic delays. The center lane, Massachusetts Department of Transportation confirmed later, was opened once the scene had cleared.
An unmarked police sedan with emergency lights flashing was seen with significant rear damage at the site, while the offending SUV had sustained heavy frontal damage. WCVB reports indicate that the right lane and center lane were blocked as officers conducted their investigation, which has since been cleared.
Neither the severity of the trooper’s injuries nor the condition he was in were immediately provided by the state police. Consequences faced by Anderson following the OUI arrest have not been disclosed, including her detention status or potential charges.
