Phoenix drivers, brace yourselves for a bit of a slowdown this weekend. From today through Monday, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has scheduled closures and restrictions along several key freeways for ongoing improvement projects. According to ADOT's advisory, the eastbound lanes of I-10 between State Route 143 and Ray Road will be completely closed to enable paving and bridge work as part of the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Detours will reroute traffic via Loop 202 and Loop 101.

Furthermore, closures will affect the westbound US 60 between Loop 101 and I-10 for bridge and sign work, with ramps at Country Club Drive, Alma School Road, and Dobson Road also out of service. Road users are advised to use northbound Loop 101 onto westbound Loop 202 as an alternative. Meanwhile, the northbound Loop 101 will see a temporary shutdown between I-10 and Thunderbird Road for pavement sealing, necessitating the use of 91st or 99th avenues to navigate the closure. ADOT underscores the importance of allowing extra travel time during these works.

Restrictions also hit I-17, where southbound traffic will be funneled into a single lane between SR 74/Carefree Highway and Loop 303 for pavement improvements, particularly during overnight hours. The southbound I-17 on- or off-ramps at Dove Valley Road and Loop 303 will also face closures intermittently throughout the weekend. The same goes for the northbound I-17, which will be narrowed to one lane between Jomax Road and Loop 303 at night.

It's not just about delays; these projects signify a deeper investment in the Maricopa County region's infrastructure, largely funded by Proposition 400, the dedicated sales tax voted in by county residents in 2004. For those on the go, up-to-the-minute highway conditions can be sourced from ADOT's Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, the az511 app, or by the simple dial of 511. With the potential for weather or other unpredictables, schedules could shift, so travelers, plan with a buffer in mind.
