In the early hours of Monday, a disturbance in downtown Boston led to a police chase and the arrest of Davon Olaes, 36, on firearm-related charges. The Boston Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to Warrenton Street after receiving calls about a large fight and subsequent gunfire in a parking garage at 270 Tremont Street. The police operation quickly evolved as officers zeroed in on a suspect vehicle with its passenger door ajar. The encounter soon turned into a foot pursuit after a suspect fled and discarded a firearm during the chase, according to the Boston Police Department's official statement.
Upon apprehending Olaes, who hails from Malden, officers decided to conduct a search of the earlier mentioned vehicle, finding a box of .22 caliber ammunition inside. The discarded weapon was later identified as a DB9 Diamondback, equipped with one round in the chamber and two more in the magazine. Despite the initial reports of gunfire, no victims were discovered, though officers did uncover ballistic evidence including several spent shell casings in the parking garage.
Olaes now faces charges for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling, and Two Counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. The Boston Police Department has confirmed that the suspect is set to be arraigned at Boston Municipal Court.
