Portland's streets have seen a notable effort to tackle the city’s public drug issue, with law enforcement agencies doubling down in the Hazelwood Neighborhood. Last Wednesday, a joint operation between the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Transit Police Division and the Portland Police Bureau's East Precinct, including the East Precinct Neighborhood Response Team, targeted drug suppliers around key transit areas.
The mission's focused endeavors have led to custody and seizures. According to an official statement from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, officers were active near East Burnside Street at Northeast 122nd Avenue and Northeast 148th Avenue, as well as the Gateway Transit Center at Northeast 99th Avenue and Northeast Pacific Street. The collaboration resulted in 18 individuals taken into custody and 19 vehicles stopped, among other enforcement actions.
A key component of the crackdown was the significant quantity of drugs removed from the streets. The authorities seized 1,444 grams of fentanyl, 33 grams of heroin, and 1,000 blue fentanyl pills—underscoring their commitment to stemming the tide of dangerous narcotics flowing into the community.
