A Portland Police Sergeant narrowly escaped injury in a hit-and-run collision in the St. Johns Neighborhood yesterday morning. According to a press release from the Portland Police Bureau, the incident occurred at 9:13 a.m. at the North Fessenden Street and North Columbia Way intersection when the officer's vehicle, a 2017 Ford Interceptor Utility, was rear-ended by a Ford F250 pickup truck. The impact pushed the police vehicle and a Mazda minivan forward, causing significant property damage.
After the initial crash, the suspect driving the pickup briefly stopped before attempting to flee the scene. However, due to the damage sustained by his vehicle, he was forced to abandon it and absconded on foot. Though numerous officers, including the PPB K9 unit, searched the area, the man was not located, and no immediate arrests were made. No significant injuries were reported, and none of the involved parties were hospitalized.
The Portland Police are continuing the investigation into the hit-and-run. The suspect's vehicle was impounded as evidence. While the police SUV had to be towed due to the extent of the damage, the minivan driver could leave the crash site after cooperating with police questioning. In a statement by the Portland Police Bureau, anyone with information relevant to the suspect's identity or details of the crash has been urged to contact the Traffic Investigations Unit by emailing [email protected], referencing case number 24-274522.
The police statement included a photo description detailing the damage to the left rear quarter panel of the blue and white Portland Police SUV, showing a crumpled left rear quarter panel, as well as illustrations of the flattened left rear tire.
