A student at Reading Junior Senior High School was the one to alert the police about the threat, sparking a collaborative effort to assess its validity. Despite the diligence of the authorities, the threat's source and legitimacy remain unverified. The decision to not take any chances and to shut down the district schools was informed by "an abundance of caution," as the district stated in a letter sent to families – a statement also reported by FOX19.
