A Redwood City man has been arrested following an incident that involved elder abuse and the discovery of illegal weapons and narcotics, according to local authorities. On Tuesday morning, the Redwood City Police Department was called to a residence on the 100 block of Cypress Street, where a 73-year-old woman reported she had been locked out of her home and assaulted by her 50-year-old son, Savalas McKibben.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the victim with visible injuries. Following the altercation, and after a brief search for McKibben, police located him in the backyard and detained him without further incident, a situation that, thankfully, did not escalate.
A subsequent search of McKibben's bedroom, warranted by his probation status, turned up various illegal items. Among the contraband was an un-serialized firearm with ammunition and a high-capacity magazine, additional ammunition – including that for a handgun and a rifle, various firearms parts, and a suspected controlled substance, which, at this time, appears to be narcotics.
McKibben is now facing multiple charges: Elder Abuse, Possession of an Assault Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, Possession of Ammunition by a Prohibited Person, Possessing a Controlled Substance while Armed, among other weapons offenses, as reported by the Redwood City Police Department. He was subsequently booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.
Redwood City Police are urging anyone with further information about this case to contact their non-emergency number. Individuals can call the department at (650)780-7100 to report any additional details.
