Amidst a burgeoning health crisis exacerbated by Hurricane Helene's wrath, Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03) has taken a decisive step to directly appeal to the White House. The Arizona representative has penned a succinct yet urgent letter, which was made public via his official website, calling on President Biden to swiftly act on the dire shortage of IV and dialysis solutions plaguing health facilities—and by extension, patients—across the nation. Arizona's hospitals, he reports, grapple with stifling restrictions on ordering these essential supplies, foreboding a potential disaster for patient care.
“Unfortunately, due to the damage at the Baxter facility, I am hearing from hospitals in my state that they are being informed of supply issues and have been put on strict ordering restrictions. A prolonged shortage of IV solutions would be disastrous for the health and safety of Arizonans and would make it more difficult for medical professionals to provide care,” Rep. Ruben Gallego wrote in a letter, as stated on his official website.
According to the press release, the representative's remedial pleas extend to an ensemble of actions which include invoking a national emergency declaration, proclaiming a public health emergency, officially recognizing the shortage, broadening hospital flexibility in IV preparations, and considering extensions on expiration dates for these solutions where feasible.
