It's a new day for drivers in Rice County. The anticipated roundabout at Hwy. 19/I-35 is now in full operation, paving ways for vehicles to smoothly circumnavigate what was once a troublesome interchange. According to an official statement from the county highway department, no major roadblocks are expected, though commuters may experience brief pauses as final touches are added to the $4.76 million project.
Despite the roundabout’s full opening, occasional delays may still occur due to final tasks like pavement markings and roadside adjustments. These brief disruptions, expected to wrap up in the coming weeks, are minor steps toward completion, as reported by Rice County officials.
As per Rice County, roundabouts boast an 86% decrease in fatal crashes, 83% drop in crashes with life-altering injuries, and a 42% downturn in the overall injury crash rate at intersections – numbers too compelling to dismiss.
