During a high school football game on Friday between Shenango Wildcats and Rochester Rams, a Rochester Area School District player collapsed. According to a WPXI report, the player, now identified as Carter Mason, was flown to a nearby hospital following the incident. At the moment, there is no official word on his immediate condition.

A 911 dispatcher from Lawrence County confirmed the incident occurred on the sideline during the game. Superintendent Jane Bovalino of the Rochester Area School District addressed the situation, stating their community is rallying around the young athlete. "The Rochester Area School District, including families, students and staff send their thoughts and prayers to the student, his family, our coaches and team, along with the Rochester school community," she said in a statement detailed by WPXI.

Further details reported by CBS News included a statement from the player's family explaining that Mason suffered a seizure after a collision with another player. His grandmother, Dorothy Mason, recounted the event. "Apparently, he must have bumped in with another player and was hit on the left side of his head, and he had collapsed, they said it looked like seizures, and they got an ambulance for him and took him up to Children's Hospital. They [flew] him to Children's Hospital.

It was also disclosed that Mason had previously sustained concussions from playing football. As it stands, his grandmother says he remains unconscious in hospital. The distressing turn of events has prompted the school district to express their concern and support via social media, reiterating their thoughts with Mason, his family, and the entire Rochester school community as they await further updates on his recovery.
