Big rigs and their drivers in rural Arizona will benefit from smoother roads due to a federal grant. The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division (ADOT MVD) has received a $1.87 million grant to resurface asphalt at three commercial driver license (CDL) skills test sites in Prescott, Show Low, and Yuma.

According to a release from ADOT, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is providing a total of $55 million in grants, with Arizona's share aimed at improving aging CDL skills test sites. In addition to new asphalt, the sites will also receive new striping to help future truckers maneuver. These upgrades aim to ensure that CDL skills tests are safe, accurate, and consistent.

The FMCSA is responsible for keeping large trucks and buses safe on America's roads. They analyze data and implement new safety regulations. Working with local governments, nonprofits, and other stakeholders, they develop improved driver training programs, enhance safety inspections, and promote legal compliance.

Today, the FMCSA will host a press event at Tucson's Pima County Community College Center for Transportation and Logistics. Local leaders and state officials will speak about the benefits of the federal funding and how the improved test sites will enhance Arizona's supply chains.
