Community members and local officials gathered this past Saturday to celebrate the grand reopening of Carmel Mountain Community Pool, now featuring a suite of upgrades to enhance the aquatic experience for San Diegans. According to the City of San Diego, the ceremony was graced by Mayor Todd Gloria and Councilmember Marni von Wilpert, among others, who together marked the completion of the long-awaited project.
The City of San Diego has owned the pool since its inauguration in 1996, with various leaseholders managing the facility until it fell under direct city control last December. For roughly 20 months, operations at the pool halted to allow an extensive renovation designed to modernize infrastructure and ensure ADA compliance. As the City of San Diego's press release detailed, Mayor Gloria expressed enthusiasm over the upgraded facility, citing "years of hard work and collaboration" and the city's commitment to quality recreational resources.
The facility's refurbishments included key infrastructure installations such as a new domestic water heater and pool heater and modernized filtration and pumping systems. Moreover, the pool and deck areas have improved greatly, with ADA-compliant restrooms, showers, and new decking equipment. The community pool also sports freshly painted surfaces, comfortable deck chairs, and renovated picnic areas, perfect for those enjoying the San Diego weather.
