The San Diego Zoo has become a playground for a curious crossover event featuring the popular Nintendo video game characters known as Pikmin. Running from October 1st through November 28, the Denny Sanford Wildlife Explorers Basecamp at the Zoo hosts a real-world scavenger hunt for these digital creatures. In partnership with the Zoo, Nintendo of America invites visitors to discover the amusing Pikmin and uniquely engage with the natural world.
The promotion encourages participants to get their hands dirty and seek out plants like Pikmin hidden throughout the basecamp grounds. According to a statement from the official Pikmin Nintendo site, youngsters under 11 can enjoy this immersive experience gratis when accompanied by a paid adult ticket holder for October.
For those enthralled by the whimsical synergy of wildlife and gaming, the event promises more than mere searching. "And just like in the Pikmin series of games, kids will be encouraged to grow, gather and guide: grow in their appreciation for the natural world around them, gather pictures and memories of Pikmin in the Zoo, and guide their friends and family through exciting themed locations throughout Wildlife Explorers Basecamp," according to a Business Wire article.
Anticipation is high for weekend visitors from today to November 24, who are encouraged to visit the Pikmin pop-up tent. Here, guests are prompted to fully immerse themselves in a series of Pikmin-themed activities by picking up a Nintendo goodie bag after completing certain tasks, like photographing the Pikmin camouflaged within the Zoo's scenery. Moreover, as per the Business Wire release, explorers can accrue 100 My Nintendo Platinum Points redeemable for digital and physical rewards.
Completing the immersive experience, the San Diego Zoo's approach aligns with the conservation ethos Nintendo subtly weaves into its event. The Wildlife Explorers Basecamp serves as an environmental education hub to instill a deeper appreciation for nature among the younger generation. Parents and children alike can expect a day filled with learning and laughter as they encounter a blend of wildlife and playful Pikmin.
