In an effort to strengthen education and opportunities, Sen. Sonya Halpern has announced a significant collaboration aimed at supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). An agreement has been established between her office and the HBCU Brilliance Initiative to improve funding, access, and resources for these important educational institutions.
According to a recent announcement by Senate Press, incorporated under The Reinvestment Fund, the Brilliance Initiative seeks to innovate and expand access to technical assistance and essential capital funding. Despite Senate Bill 235's advancement, which stalled in the Senate after passing through the Georgia House of Representatives, Halpern is continuing her efforts in partnership to dismantle historical barriers that hinder the potential of HBCUs.
"I’m thrilled to announce this partnership as a testament to my commitment to advancing HBCUs across the country," Sen. Halpern told Senate Press. She also highlighted the potential for an improved financial framework to not only boost local economies but also to confront and address the systemic disparities affecting these communities and their educational institutions.
With an eye towards progress, Senator Halpern expressed hope for collaborations with stakeholders that they will yield a brighter, more equitable future for HBCUs, as reported by Senate Press. "Together, we WILL sustain our historic and beloved HBCUs," Christina Alexis said, the HBCU Brilliance Initiative Program Director.
