According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, the incident occurred near 750 West Jackson Avenue, with initial reports of the sound of gunshots at around 9:08 a.m. Not long after the first calls, additional information surfaced about an individual being shot.
Responding swiftly, law enforcement officers arrived at the scene to secure the area and subsequently detained several people in connection with the investigation. The person who was struck by gunfire was transported by paramedics to a local hospital with serious, but thankfully non-life-threatening injuries. As it stands, the SLCPD is asserting that, based on early indications, the assault does not pose a continuous threat to the wider community.
In their ongoing inquiry, police have begun piecing together the circumstances that led to the shooting. A disagreement within a residence is suspected to have escalated to a violent confrontation, and though the officers have a person of interest, they continue to work diligently to determine exactly who all were involved and if further suspects might still be at large. Meanwhile, the department has issued road closures on Jackson Avenue stretching from 700 West to 800 West, directing media personnel to stage at 700 West Jackson Avenue.
