A shootout involving two vehicles has rocked a quiet South Euclid neighborhood, with police embarking on an investigation into the violent occurrence. As reported by FOX8, South Euclid Police Chief Joseph Mays confirmed that the gunfire was reported near Adrian Road and Piermont Road on Tuesday night, and surveillance video has captured parts of the dangerous exchange. Upon arriving at the scene shortly before 10:30 p.m., officers discovered a staggering 29 shell casings scattered across the intersection.
According to witness accounts provided to the South Euclid Police, two light-colored cars were seen chasing and exchanging gunfire, as described by WKYC. Bullet holes in nearby residences also evidenced the aftermath of the skirmish. In a statement obtained by FOX 8, Chief Mays emphasized a deep concern for the incident and assured the public of the department's commitment to finding those responsible.
Neighborhood residents were caught off guard by the unexpected flare of violence, as conveyed in a Cleveland19 report. A local woman, choosing to stay anonymous, expressed her shock over such a dangerous event occurring in what is known to be a peaceful area where people "are out here with their babies and strollers, and people are always walking their dogs."
Residents hurriedly activated a chain of calls to one another, a reflection of the area's close-knit fabric, one man living a few blocks away noted in an interview with Cleveland 19. Peering out amid the chaos, Lauren Olevnik, a traveling nurse, recounted how her friend advised her to stay away from the window as she attempted to ascertain if the perpetrators were still present. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported despite the significant property damage. Police are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Lieutenant Parisi at 216-691-4253 or email [email protected] as the quest to identify those involved intensifies.
