In a move to sustain the momentum of Oklahoma's tourism sector, Governor Kevin Stitt has appointed Sterling Zearley as the interim executive director of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department (OTRD), as announced through the state's official newsroom. Zearley, who has over two decades of experience within the department, is taking over the reins to steer the department amidst a significant period marked by notable events.
"I'm thankful for Sterling's willingness to step into this role at Tourism as we transition to new leadership," expressed Governor Stitt, according to the state's official newsroom. He praised Zearley's long-standing service to Oklahoma, particularly for the enhancement of state parks. With a bachelor's and a master's degree in education, Zearley joins the department with a strong blend of academic and practical expertise.
With a focus on the upcoming Route 66 Centennial and hosting Olympic events such as softball and canoeing, Zearley is prepared to face the challenges ahead. As reported by the state's newsroom, Zearley commented on his new position, "I look forward to the opportunity to lead Tourism and continue to serve my state in an agency I love." He also added, "With the upcoming Route 66 Centennial and the opportunity to host Olympic softball and canoeing, all eyes will be on Oklahoma. We are ready for the challenge."
An alumnus of Northeastern State University and the University of Arkansas, Zearley is not only seasoned in the arena of state tourism but also deeply rooted in the local community. He and his wife, Samantha, proud parents to two sons and joyous about the recent birth of their grandson, with another grandson poised to join the family soon, demonstrate the personal ties that bind him to the state he serves.
