In a recent incident in Southeast Washington, a stolen dog named Pepper has been returned to its owner, and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is continuing its investigation into the theft. The black Cane Corso puppy, just 3 months old, was reported stolen from a boat on the night of October 11. According to an official release from the MPDC, officers responded to a call around 9:00 p.m. in the 100 block of Potomac Avenue, where they found that the vessel had been broken into and Pepper was missing.
The situation changed when a good Samaritan, who had purchased the dog through an online advertisement without knowing the circumstances, learned about Pepper's theft and returned him to his owner last Saturday. After the theft, the MPD shared images and details of Pepper, which assisted in his identification. The MPD has since reunited Pepper with his owner, confirming that he is in good condition, and shared a photo of the moment in their statement.
While this incident is resolved for Pepper and his owner, the MPD has indicated that the case is still active. They continue to seek the individual responsible, reviewing leads and asking for public assistance. "Anyone who knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411." A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information that contributes to the progress of the case and leads to an arrest and indictment.
