
A tragic incident unfolded in the northeast Las Vegas valley early Saturday morning, resulting in the death of a 48-year-old man and the arrest of a suspected DUI driver following a hit-and-run crash. According to News 3 LV, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to the area near Nellis Blvd. and Cheyenne Ave. shortly after the accident occurred at around 5:38 a.m.
The collision took place at the intersection of Marion Dr. and Flippin St., where the pedestrian was struck by a 1996 Ford Ranger traveling northbound. Following the incident, the driver, a 22-year-old male, failed to appropriately stop and left the scene. Paramedics transported the victim to UMC where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives were able to locate the driver and the vehicle related to the crash. As reported by 8 News Now, the suspect, identified as Alfredo Jauregui, displayed signs of impairment at the time of his arrest. He was subsequently booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges of DUI and hit-and-run.
This incident marks a grim milestone, being the 114th traffic-related fatality within the jurisdiction of the LVMPD for the year 2024. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
