
Tragedy struck late Saturday night in Sacramento as a collision involving a car and a bicycle left one dead. The Sacramento Police Department reports the incident occurred just after 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Marysville Boulevard and Main Avenue. A man on a bicycle was fatally struck by a vehicle which, according to police, fled the scene shortly after.
Responding officers found the bicyclist, whose identity remains unknown, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. In a matter of time, the suspected driver was found a short distance away after the crash had been completely fled. The man identified as 53-year-old Vicente Perez of West Sacramento, exhibited signs of intoxication when officers detained him, as they reported to CBS News Sacramento.
Perez has since been arrested and booked into jail facing two felony counts, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. As the investigation continues, the police urge anyone with information about the crash to contact the department.
Perez remains in custody, facing charges related to his alleged impairment. The crash investigation is still ongoing, according to police.
