Following a request from District Attorney General Steve Finney, the TBI confirmed that they were to thoroughly investigate the incident that took place on September 27, 2024. Finney was quoted as stating, "Early yesterday morning, I spoke with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and requested that they look into allegations involving Impact Plastics in Unicoi County, Tennessee. Specifically, I asked that they review the occurrences of Friday, September 27, 2024, to identify any potential criminal violations," as obtained by Knox News. Amid the ongoing investigation, Impact Plastics has announced its commitment to fully cooperate. They stated, "Impact Plastics has not been contacted by the TBI, but will fully cooperate with their investigation. Meanwhile, employees affected by the flood have relayed differing accounts, indicating they were not given the opportunity to evacuate in time.
