Bethesda Avenue in Montgomery County became the scene of an armed carjacking when four teenagers from Silver Spring and Prince George's County, aged between 13 and 17, made off with a vehicle after an armed confrontation. According to the Montgomery County Police Department, the incident occurred on Saturday evening.
Donning all black and masks, the teens approached the victim, who, having their car parked in the 4800 block of Bethesda Avenue, was forced to part ways with their keys and property at gunpoint. The group escaped in the stolen car, as detailed in the official police release.
Their freedom was short-lived, however, as an off-duty officer chanced upon the vehicle on Wisconsin Avenue and Stanford Street. Attempts by the young assailants to evade the law led to a traffic stop and a brief attempt at flight, but they were apprehended shortly after that, all four of them.
The 13 and 15-year-olds now find themselves at Cheltenham Detention Center. The charged 17-year-old is being held at Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, facing charges as an adult, including armed carjacking and robbery. The 14-year-old, who was injured during the crime and subsequent police chase, was hospitalized and will join his cohorts at Cheltenham Detention Center upon release.
