A tragedy unfolded on North Bend Road in Mt. Airy when a 15-year-old boy driving a stolen SUV collided with two vehicles, killing one man and injuring another. The Hamilton County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 28-year-old Yeshua Humphrey of Evanston, who passed away after the crash at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, as reported by WCPO.
The events began to unfold at around 7:35 a.m. yesterday after Green Township police attempted to stop the Honda CR-V, which was reported stolen out of Cincinnati. The 15-year-old driver "purposely swerved to the left, striking a marked Green Township Police cruiser," then led officers on a pursuit before colliding with the two other vehicles, according to FOX19. After the crash, the teen fled on foot but was later apprehended and charged with receiving stolen property, felonious assault on a police officer, and failure to comply with a police officer. The second injured person, a 69-year-old woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Mercy Health West Hospital.
Cincinnati police are investigating "excessive speed" as a potential contributing factor in the fatal accident that occurred at 2323 West North Bend Road at 7:40 a.m. The involved vehicles included a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox SUV and a 2018 BMW 540i sedan. Humphrey, the driver of the BMW, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, while the woman driving the Chevrolet was, which may have contributed to the severity of their respective injuries, The Enquirer detailed.
Any witnesses to the crash are encouraged to come forward and contact the Cincinnati Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514.
