Early this morning, a man opened fire with an assault rifle from his Mountain View apartment, targeting an occupied vehicle near the Town and Country Village Apartment Complex. According to the San Diego Police Department, multiple 9-1-1 calls came in around 6:05 a.m. with reports of gunfire at 4066 Messina Drive. One individual reported that the shots had hit her husband’s vehicle. Witnesses claimed to have heard between three to six gunshots.
Responding officers pinpointed the origin of shots to an apartment at 285 Vista Horizon Street. The suspect, later engaging with the arriving S.W.A.T. unit, ultimately surrendered without further incident. In a stroke of luck, or perhaps by design, no injuries were reported amidst the chaos.
Integral to the subsequent investigation, which Southeastern Division detectives are leading, was the identification of 45-year-old Travis Kingston Kirk as the alleged shooter. A search of Kirk's apartment yielded a semi-automatic rifle and multiple rounds of ammunition. Kirk faces charges of attempted murder and additional firearms-related offenses.
