A Texas man has been sentenced to three decades behind bars after traveling to Florida with the intent to commit a sexual offense against a minor, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Tyler Colton Rock, a 26-year-old from Texas, will also face a lifetime of supervised release after his imprisonment on charges of coercing a minor and distributing obscene materials.

Rock, who was 25 at the time of the incident, initiated an illicit online liaison with a 13-year-old from Pinellas County, he had the underage victim create and send him sexually explicit images and did not hold back in sending images of his genitalia and videos of himself engaged in masturbation, he full-well knowing the nature of his actions was crossing a dangerous line into federal crime territory as demonstrated through the apprehended messages in which he acknowledged the potential of his free self either having the best trip of his life or being caught and ending up in federal prison.

In her ruling, U.S. District Judge Mary S. Scriven detailed that in February 2023, Rock made the journey from Texas to Pinellas County stocked with condoms, emergency contraception pills, and stuffed animals, a clear indication of the intentions he harbored for this visit; additional reports note that Rock also gave the child marijuana before committing the sexual offense. This sentence was the handiwork of FBI Tampa's dedicated agents and analysts, according to FBI Tampa Special Agent in Charge Matthew Fodor, who emphasized, "This man knew what he was doing was a federal crime, and yet, continued to prey on the young victim."

The investigation, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Abigail K. King, forms part of Project Safe Childhood's broader nationwide initiative which began in 2006 and aimed to relentlessly fight the growing child sexual exploitation and abuse epidemic.
