A tragic situation unfolded in Fremont on Monday morning when a three-year-old child was struck and killed by a vehicle. The Fremont Police Department received several emergency calls around 11:45 a.m., reporting the accident at the intersection of Dunsmuir Common and Colleen Terrace. Officers who hurried to the scene attempted life-saving procedures on the child, but despite their efforts and those of the Fremont Fire Department, the child passed away from their injuries on the spot.
The driver of the vehicle, according to the Fremont Police Department’s statement, was moving forward from a parking stall when the child unexpectedly stepped in front of the car. The vehicle's front left side made the fatal contact. Drug or alcohol impairment does not seem to be at play in this incident, but the investigation by the Traffic Investigations Unit is ongoing. The driver, who stopped immediately after the collision, cooperates with the authorities.
