Violence erupted on a busy street on Indianapolis’ east side yesterday afternoon, leading to two men being critically wounded, as detailed by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD). Officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of East 38th Street around 4:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting, according to FOX59. They discovered one male victim at the scene presenting injuries from gunshot wounds.
A second victim was found soon after, injured in a similar plight by gunfire at the intersection of 38th Street and Arlington Avenue. Both individuals were promptly taken to a hospital, where they remain in critical condition. The connection between the two men, if any, was not clear, and it was yet unknown whether they were shooting at each other, or if others were involved in the incident, as IMPD could not confirm.
With the incident having taken place outside a grocery store in a "highly traveled area," IMPD Sergeant William Young urged anyone with information, particularly security camera footage that may have captured the shooting, to come forward. "It’s certainly disturbing," Young said, expressing personal connection and concern for the community he serves, as reported by FOX59. Reflecting on the broader issue at hand, he emphasized the importance of conflict resolution that doesn't escalate to violence.
IMPD is actively seeking tips from the public, which can be directed to their line at (317) 327-3475, or, for those wishing anonymity, to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477, or through the P3Tips mobile app and their website. News of the second victim's condition was also confirmed by WRTV, though specifics on their state of health were not disclosed beyond the critical status.
