Early this morning in Delhi Township, a routine patrol became an emergency. According to Local12 News, two police officers sustained minor injuries after their cruiser was hit from behind on Pedretti Avenue. The officers, one a veteran and the other in training were inside the vehicle at approximately 2:30 a.m. when the incident occurred.
The sequence of events that followed saw the striking vehicle's driver apprehended. Hauled into custody on an OVI charge, the driver, along with another passenger in their car, declined medical treatment on the scene. As local authorities conflate the duties of justice with compassion, the police chief personally accompanied the officers to the hospital for evaluation, according to the same report by Local12 News.
Further details emerged from a FOX19 report, revealing that the incident involved a blue Toyota sedan striking the officers' SUV as they conducted their routine patrol. While the driver and one passenger were taken into custody, a third individual reportedly fled the scene, and the search for the suspect is ongoing. A tow truck was also spotted around 3:30 a.m., suggesting recovery efforts for the vehicles involved.
Though the officers' and the driver's identities have not been released, and while the roadway was kept open during the investigation, the imprint of the night’s events lingered into the day. "The officers are expected to be okay after being rear-ended, but are a little shaken up," as the WLWT coverage noted, but they are both expected to return to duty quickly.
