Tragedy struck at the intersection of South Torrey Pines Drive and West Robindale Road on the night of October 8, when a high-speed collision claimed the lives of two drivers. According to a statement from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, a 2021 Dodge Challenger and a 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL63 were involved in the fatal incident which occurred around 9:41 PM.
Through evidence collected at the scene and witness statements, it was determined that the Dodge Challenger was traveling northbound at significant speed when a westbound Mercedes-Benz entered the intersection concurrently, subsequently being struck by the Dodge which failed to stop at the four-way posted sign. The violent collision redirected both vehicles, causing the Dodge to veer off the road, colliding with trees and landscaping. After being struck, the Mercedes-Benz rotated before coming to a halt off the roadway. Sadly, the injuries were so severe that the victims could not be saved. Their identities are not being released yet, as authorities are notifying their families, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
This calamitous event has pushed the year's traffic-related fatalities in the area covered by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to 119, marking a somber record for the community. The drivers, one a 35-year-old male hailing from North Las Vegas in the flashy Dodge Challenger Hellcat, and the other, a 61-year-old resident of Las Vegas in the luxury Mercedes-Benz, both had their journeys end in an unforeseen moment of calamity.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section has taken lead on the ongoing inquiry into the sequence of events leading to the fatal outcome of this incident. The department implores witnesses or anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in the reconstruction of the events.
