Two separate incidents of driving while intoxicated led to multiple vehicle collisions involving El Paso County Sheriff's Office patrol units early this morning, according to official reports.
In the first accident, Deputies from the East Montana Patrol Station were at the scene of a motor vehicle collision on I-10 Eastbound Mile Marker 37 around 1:52 AM when a vehicle crashed into one of their patrol units and a tow truck. The Sheriff's Office has stated that the driver, identified as 27-year-old Roman Aranda, was intoxicated at the time of the incident. Aranda was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, as reported by El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
Less than two hours after the first crash, Deputies from the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station were guiding traffic near I-10 EB MM 35. Here, another intoxicated driver collided with yet another patrol unit. The driver, assigned to handle the multitude of diverted vehicles, was determined to be 32-year-old Daniel Vasqez who was also found under the influence and subsequently arrested for the same charge.
Both Aranda and Vasqez were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility following their arrests. As the booking process is still pending, no booking images have been made available at this time.
